Egg-cellent

Pictures From Spring Valley

Egg-cellent
This is the last picture in my series on chickens. You have probably heard by now that eggs are better when they run around in the chicken all day, rather than roll out on a conveyor belt in an egg factory. I can tell you it's true. I get to eat one almost every day, thanks to my sisters, the Henkeepers. They even know which hen laid each of these eggs. Which one would you guess was laid by the rascal, Buckeye?

You mean you can actually tell which hen laid which egg??? How do you do that?

How about the darkest one?

I think that maybe it's the dark brown egg because Buckeye is brown!

I'd say the most rascally looking egg is the one with some kind of stain on it.

What lovely shades of brown--and a happy ending for your story!

The one on the lower left is Buckeye's. Rhode Island Reds like Buckeye usually lay darker brown eggs than the Barred Rocks. We also spy on the hens to see which one is in the nest box when.
